Week 12: Right wing skins

Now that I have had the technical councilor visit I was able to close up the right wing. I deburred, scuffed, dimpled, cleaned and then primed the main and root skins. Then attached them with clecos.

I had a minor issue with the root skin. There is a flange that needs to go between the bottom skin and ribs, but it was out of place on the end. To fix it I had to remove all the clecos on the root skin and refit it.

Once everything was in the correct place i pulled all the rivets. Like always I am glad that I'm not using solid rivets, the whole top of the wing was riveted in less than 2 hours. When I was done I noticed one spot with a little oil canning, I will probably drill out some of the rivets to see if I can fix this.

I also continued my ongoing efforts to find and fix the leaks in my fuel tank. I decided to tie in my professional life and used a small amount of refrigerant and a leak detector to find the leaks. This confirmed it was leaking into the leading edge which means the next step is to open the tank back up so it can be resealed. I feel a lot better about doing this knowing that is where the problem is versus just guessing.
