AUX fuel tanks - Pt 3
To contine the fabrication of the AUX fuel tank covers, I located and drilled the nutplate holes for the cover attach fasteners. Because I had drilled out existing fasteners (previously dimpled) I was forced to use dimpled nutplates (K1100-6) in lieu of the flat nutplates (K1000-6).
No big deal right? Well, the dimpled nutplates run about $1.90 each so after a few days of sticker shock and a few breathing exercises I placed the order.
The next step was to countersink the holes in the wing (common to the tank cover) to allow the dimpled cover to sit flat. Then I dimpled the tank cover, beveled the edges of the cover and finally installed the dimpled nutplates.
