Electric Fuel Pump
My engine has fuel injection from Airflow Performance and that includes an electric fuel pump with filter that will be located upstream of the mechanical pump on the engine. Initially I had planned to install this pump/filter assembly under the cabin floor to keep it cool but the downside to that installation is the fuel spillage that inevitably will occur each year during the Condition Inspection when the filter is removed for cleaning and inspection.
Instead, I opted to install the pump/filter assembly on the forward side of the engine firewall and make provisions for cooling. I made a bracket that will be fixed to the firewall on which the fuel pump and filter will be mounted. To provide the necessary cooling, I built a shroud to cover the pump/filter but will be easy to remove for maintenance. The cooling air will be drawn from outside the engine cowling via a small scoop and ducted to the shroud. At the far end of the shroud I will drill air exit holes to allow a constant supply of cool air to the pump/filter assembly whenever the engine is running and in flight.
