Correction of wingtips part 6 - Install wingtip fibreglass bottom inserts
Photo essay

A graded 4-3-2-1 layer fibreglass sheet fabricated

RH wingtip bottom side - showing removed gelcoat and strip

RH wingtip - strip in position.

RH wingtip - note large gap to close. The holes in the original fibreglass were enlaged so that the clecos would not grab onto it, while holding the new strip in the correct position

LH wingtip - after curing.

RH wingtip - Flocked resin inserted between holes to lock new fibreglass in place while providing spaces for the rivet tails to expand. The rivets will fasten to the new strip only, in the thicker regions. Ruler and clamps are to ensure bottom skin is as straight as possible.

RH wingtip - After curing

RH wingtip - additional flocked resin used to bond strip (while leaving rivet tail spaces for the rearmost two rivets, and create a fillet. This fillet is not the final profile - gelcoat filler will be used to create the final blend

LH wingtip - much smaller discrepancy

LH wingtip - while several original rivet holes enlarged to ensure the new strip is located correctly

LH wingtip - gap is much smaller and can be fully filled with resin. Fillet of flocked resin will be covered with gelcoat filler for a final finish
