Correction of wingtips part 12 - manufacture rivet backing strips for wingtips
The wingtip edges were thickened up so as to better withstand the forces of setting the rivets. Despite this the rivet tail was seen to cause significant hole enlargement, and some delamination in the immediate vicinity of the rivet hole, particularly when un-flocked resin was used. So, like some other builders, I made aluminium strips against which the rivet tails will be set. 0.63mm 6061-T6 aluminium was used, and held in place with hot glue. The strips were left unprimed as it was found the hot glue did not adhere well to the primed surface.
