Dump custom fuel flow meter mount - revised routing of fuel filter and flow meter lines

In the Sling 2 KAI a disposable plastic fuel filter is specified to be placed both after the fuel pumps and the fuel flow meter. Sling have stated the reason for this is "redundancy". Since I am using a different fuel filter, one that is altogether more solidly made then the plastic type I reviewed the need for two such filters. I discussed the matter with the manufacturer of the FT-60 fuel flow meter and came to the conclusion that a single fuel filter placed before this unit, after the fuel pumps would be sufficient and optimal.

Mini Motosport Filters - Raceworks

Part of this decision was based on the notion of possible failure cascades. If the fuel pumps fail, they could shed particles that could jam up the fuel flow meter (and the carburettors). However, the FT-60 manufacturer states that if the paddle in this unit became detached from its bearings, it is too large to escape out of the exit port of the unit. An actual disintegration of this paddle into much smaller particles is harder to imagine. This contrasts with what one could imagine with the fuel pumps, particularly the engine driven mechanical fuel pump. Namely there is a lot more potential force behind a failure of components within such a pump.

So the final fuel design, in sequence, is

LH wing tank - Raceworks fuel filter / RH wing tank - Raceworks fuel filter -

fuel switch

Raceworks fuel filter

FT-60 fuel flow meter

carburettors
