Bruce's Oldfield Baby Lakes

Oldfield babylakes restoration

A little history on the plane. It last flew in 1999 after the owner / builder logged up 475 hours on her and was then basically taken apart and stored on a 'mezzanine' in a hanger at an airfield called Sleap.

I bought her two years ago but only recently started work on her. Starting on engine first so all cylinders stripped off, valves removed, cleaned, lapped in, cylinders honed to remove glaze and all new piston rings fitted ( standard size). Internals all looked good and there was no corrosion.

Petrol tank was a real pain, the Petrol had turned to gum and was a nightmare to remove. Cellulose thinners and an industrial steam cleaner worked eventually. Gascolator had to be replaced. Carb presently stripped for rebuilding.
