Ups and Downs
Two step forward and one step back. Recieved my order of aluminum for the ribs and other wing components yesterday. Got right to work laying out and making rough cutouts of each rib shape. I'm making two extra of everything so I have spares on hand in case there are redos needed along the way. For now I haven't created blanks for any of the control surface nose or pocket ribs since I'm planning to use the ones which were included with my previous wing material purchase.
After getting all the ribs rough trimmed it was back to the races. The process is to first establish jig holes in all the blanks. Then they are mounted between the working form blocks and I drill a 1/2" hole in each lightning hole to provide access for routing. Then trim at the bandsaw and finally route the set.
I started with all the aileron ribs then moved onto the flap ribs. While on the last pass around the last lightening hole of my last set of flap ribs the guide baring in my flush trim bit failed so that batch will be permanently dedicated to practice on future processes (flanging, fluting, etc). It was especially annoying because I was already a little disappointed in the finish I was getting and was planning to purchase a new bit tomorrow....
Live and learn. At the end of the day made a ton of progress!
