The build begins! Elevator

Nov 15, 2021

We kept the subassemblies organized in different boxes before and after the alodining process, and, as mentioned in a previous log, it was not difficult to identify the parts on the diagram.

We began by clecoing the elevator main spar together and riveting where indicated.  Then the swing arm assembly - paying attention so the places the bolts will go.

I hadn’t pulled rivets in years, but got into the swing of it in no time.  While the kit comes with the holes punched, as you put the pieces together it is often necessary to “clean” the holes with a drill as they are a bit tight for the rivet.  This is a good thing as it ensures a tight fit as the pieces come together.
