Tip Ribs And Templates
Spent today clecoing together both elevator tip ribs and final drilling all the holes. Then prepped the templates needed to carve out the foam trailing edge and trim tab ribs. This turned into a hassle because the templates in the plans are not the correct 1:1 size. They were off in width by 1/2" and in length by 3/8". So I had to remove the template page and take it to an Office Max where a helpful clerk worked with me over 45 minutes to scan the originals and print multiple copies until we got to the correct dimensions. It was doubly hard since the amount they were off in length differed from what they were off in width. So merely scaling up or down the whole page wasn't going to work. Fortunately she was skilled using the software. We were making changes in the end of less the 1.0 mm to get the final dimensions correct. Vans does warn in the plans to measure the templates to make sure they are a correct 1:1 ratio before using them. Why they just can't include the dimensionally correct templates in the first place is aggravating.
