Baggage Floors Skins Complete
Was ready to rivet the rear baggage skin flanges today and was frustrated by not having the correct rivets. The plans called for 18 AN470-3-3 rivets, a smaller size I've never needed before. When I searched them out in all my kit hardware I had none. They weren't even reflected in the kit inventory list. Sigh. Everything comes screeching to a halt. Ordering new ones will take days. And I wanted to finish these skins NOW because I'm sick of riveting them and want to move on. Fortunately I quick query to my buddy Dan solved the issue. He too initially had no AN470-3-3s when he needed them for the same parts on his now flying RV-14A. He had a bunch of them plus some AN470-3-3.5s that I was also running low on. A quick run to his place and he graciously set me up with plenty of both kinds. I got back to work and completed the remaining floor skin rivets and the last couple of nutplates. Next up is the skin doubler, flap channel and flap motor bracket. I had prepped all those parts a few weeks ago and so was able to cleco them in for a fit check. I also did a preliminary fit check with the baggage side skins. I'm gonna go out of order a little and do the side skins first, then the flap hardware and finally the 6 seatback hinges last.
