Vertical Stab And Rudder Installed

I got the vertical stabilizer and rudder installed (at least temporary) to check the fit and rudder travel. The stab bolted in easily and I was able to do it solo no problem. As with everything else I’m using temporary plain nuts to make disassembly easier. A buddy helped me hang the rudder. You need 4 arms for this and I didn’t want to risk damaging it. From there it was checking rudder travel and adjusting the rudder stops. The plans say approximately 3/4” minimum from the rudder to the inside aft corner of the elevators. The right side was 1/32” less then that and the left was 3/32” over. So I left the right side alone and filed down the left side control stop to achieve the 3/4” spec. I heard back from Vans regarding my center rudder rod end bearing and he agreed a longer one was needed for full thread engagement. I also ordered 4 longer ones for my elevators. Although the rod ends are protruding through the nut plates on my elevators only one thread is showing per my borescope inspection. The first couple threads are lead-in threads and thus slightly tapered. So after further review I’m not fully confident the rod end threads are fully engaged along the full length of each nut plates. Replacing them will alleviate any doubts.
