Fairing Prep

My replacement set of QB wings was delivered this morning. Stewart Transport did a fine job securing and protecting them in transit and kept me informed on their ETA. The wings arrived undamaged and look even better then my original set of wings. The primer is darker, the coverage seems better and the overall workmanship seems as good or better then my first set of wings. Van's has upped their packing game as well. My ailerons came boxed with custom foam cushioning securing and protecting them. The first set of ailerons was merely wrapped in bubble wrap and carboard. The flaps were not included and are back ordered but I won't be needed them for awhile. Once I had inspected the wings for any damage (didn't find any) it was on to prepping all the fairings. The first step is clearing the gelcoat away from the molded in recess lines on all the parts to make a square edge. This will help the part seat better in the control surface and minimize filling and sanding for final fit. I found using a small screwdriver with blade filed sharp made a nice tool to draw and scrape along the recessed edge to remove the gelcoat as needed.
