Day 18
Fuel Tank Sealing, Take 2
Today we were able to finish sealing our fuel tanks. The proper speed sealant arrived. The 2-hour option was much better to work with than the 1/2 hour. We didn't get any pictures from our day. It was very quick and messy process. You literally only have a 2-hour work time. In that time, we needed to finish the main tank we had started, as well as the two additional long-range tanks. The process we followed was the same as the first time we went to do the tanks.
- Make sure all surfaces are clean.
- Have all parts and hardware organized and ready.
- Mix the fuel tank sealant.
- Apply small bead to bonding surfaces.
- Using a tongue depressor spread the sealant bead evenly.
- Cleco bonding surfaces together and check for alignment.
- After checking everything is in place rivet parts together using proper length and style rivets.
