Day 45
Preparing Canopy for Paint
Today was exciting! We Were able to go to the paint store and pick out the colors we plan to paint our plane! We chose to go with a Metalic Blue and a Grey paint scheme with our plane. It is going to be so gorgeous. The nose, canopy, flaps, ailerons, elevator, rudder and wing tips will be the blue. The wings, tail, horizontal stabilizer and vertical stabilizer will be the grey.
We went and picked out the colors today because next week we are going to be painting the inside of the canopy. So much easier to do it now before it is installed on the fuselage.
After we picked out the paint, we came back to the warehouse and set about finishing the canopy. We finished making the bottom joggle line where the side skins rest inside the canopy. We then sanded and scuffed the entire canopy, taking special care of the interior where we are planning to paint. We prepped the whole thing however because then whatever overspray gets on the outside, it will still stick, rather than if we didn't, we would have to sand it all making sure it is all removed later. Long and short of it; By doing it this way it saves a lot of time and headache later.
We also countersunk the 16 holes at the top where the parachute blow-out panel goes. The paint booth was cleared and swept out today, so now the first of the week we can get paint ordered and then either late evening or early morning when it is cooler (It's supposed to be in the 90's during the day this week which is far too hot to paint) we will paint our canopy. We are so excited to see how it turns out!
