Canopy door windows

Large windows installation into the canopy doors

This week we bonded the windows into the canopy doors. The process was similar to the gluing of the canopy onto the fuselage whith the exception that Sika Primer 209 was used for the plexiglass.

First the windows had to be trimmed, that was done by sanding and fitting the window multiple times untill the right fit was achieved. Afterwards masking tape was applied on the outside and inside of the window leaving a space around the edge of the inside of the window. Then, the inside of the window and the edge of the door frame were roughed up with 120 grid sandpaper and Sika 205 activator was used to clean these surfaces. Then Sika primer 206 was applied to the door frame and Sika primer 209 was applied to the window. Lastly Sika Flex 295UV was applied to the door frame, the window was bonded in and held in place with some straps and clamps.

The process went smooth and we were mostly statisfied, only the filling of the small gap between the doorframe and the window (which inevitably occurs) was a bit tricky. Since the window sometimes sits a bit lower into the doorframe and sometimes a bit higher it is hard to get a nice looking strip of Sika Flex.

This process was repeated for both doors.
