Tried to repair some defective primer patches on one horizontal stabiliser skin and the left elevator skin. Sanded the defective patches, used Scotchbrite pads and cleaned thoroughly with GR1 degreaser and acetone, left to dry then repainted. Result was bubbling paint around the edges of the repairs, some runs and generally a mess. Tried again with selective application of paint stripper and repeated the process. Failure again. It was clear this was not going to work, that I could compromise the skin if I sanded too aggressively and would still land up with a patch job, so I bought 5l of paint stripper and applied it liberally to the entire surface of each skin and removed all the primer. Cleaned thoroughly with GR1 and dried. Cleaned with acetone - lots of it. Left to dry overnight. Reapplied primer - and got a great result, so it was worth starting again, even though it took hours.
