Setting Up Shop
There's an airplane factory in there somewhere
A bearhawk wing spar is 14' long. An 18'x4' table is recommended to build the fuselage. I'll be building in a 1.5 car garage. What is a 1.5 car garage you might ask? Well it's a 22'x21' garage with a 11'x11' corner annexed turned into a mudroom by the previous owner. So we've got a "L" shaped space.
With the limited space there is no one configuration that will allow for this entire project to be built so the plan is to take a modular approach. To accomplish this my plan is to build built 4 workbenches fashioned after the EAA worktable. Two will be 8'x2' and the other two will be 6'x4'. Building the wing spars will require a long but relatively skinny work space.
The wing assembly will need a large space for assembly stands to be built.
The fuselage will need a wider longer and lower work space.
Building the workbenches and getting the garage rearranged proved to be a little too ambitious a project for a single day so I wound up working late into the evening and then continuing to straighten up the following day after work but after a long day and an evening the garage is ready for initial Bearhawk building activities!
I'm planning to try and capture time lapses of most of my building activities and posting them as part of the build log. Below is the time lapse for the workbench construction.
Next up i'm planning to try and inventory all the bits and pieces included with the wing kit and asses the work done and work remaining so I can figure out where to start!
