Instrument Panel, Firewall

I continued to mount items on the mock-up firewall, and checked clearance from the engine. The one remaining item to mount is the remote oil cooler which I don’t yet have. I plan to order one next week.

This afternoon I rang Hartzell to try and establish the correct bolt length for the governor. They were mildly helpful. I downloaded a Lycoming parts manual, found the correct part, and ordered the studs from Aircraft Spruce, along with other parts including the coax cable and connectors for the aerials.

I also collected the instrument panel which had been water jet cut. Mostly it was pretty good except for where they’d made a small cut by mistake. I repaired that with steel putty, then used a file to clean it up and get all the parts to fit. The laser would probably have done a better job, but in the end I had it looking pretty good and gave it another coat of primer. I plan to paint it “battleship grey” next week to match the cabin colors.
