Windshield fairing, Windshield supports, Boot cowls

Windshield fairing

I didn’t have enough fibreglass matt to make the fairing, so I spent a couple of hours masking it off in preparation. I still need to add sellotape over the top and a release agent. Tomorrow I’ll make the fairing itself.

Windshield supports

I fabricated 3 support brackets to sit behind the windshield. These will be bolted to the upper boot cowl and will have a foam adhesive backing on them for cushioning.

Boot cowls

I need to make a wrap around trim for the top of the gear legs so I spent some time working out how to do this. I’m keen to not have this piece screwed into the bodywork, or the gear leg. I think I’ve worked out how to make it so it floats in place, and should stay there securely.

In order to mould the trim piece I attached the lower boot cowl back on. It was difficult to fit, possibly one of the bulkheads has moved slightly as the forward boot-cowl was attached. So I had to make several adjustments. Tomorrow I plan to mask it up ready for moulding the trim.
