Horizontal Stab Part Prep and Squeezer Hassles
Spent today prepping both the spar and trimming material and prepping the spar caps for primer, match drilling the outboard hinge brackets and setting up the center hinge brackets and flange bearing. What I thought would be a simple 6 rivet squeeze assembling the flange bearing became a hassle when my squeezer bent the first rivet instead of giving a nice symmetrical mushroom shop head. Fortunately I was able to drill that one out uneventfully with some effort. Not wanting to screw any more up I proceeded to do some test rivets on scrap using rivets of a similar length and got mixed results with several setting skewed. I need to figure out why that's occuring before proceeding to real parts. This kind of thing is aggravating because a seemingly simple task gets complicated and everything stops while I sort it out. Another thing on my to-do list is buying a quality torque wrench. Once I get the flange rivets set it attaches to the spar with AN- hardware that needs to be torqued correctly.
