Right Skin And Drilling Difficulties

Got the right fuselage skin installed uneventfully. Glad I took the time to secure the wiring harness yesterday. With the side skins on it was time to move on to the aft lower fuselage skin. The piece of fairly thick .040" required significant trimming and drilling per plans. This process proceeded uneventfully until it was time to start match drilling existing holes to larger sizes to accommodate the UAT antenna. The 2 mounting holes upsized to #12 went smoothly. The center hole for the antenna connector needed to be upsized to 9/16". I used my trusty step drill, clamped the skin to the workbench, applied drilling lube and made sure the drill was square to the surface. Went it was done to my great annoyance the drill had somehow migrated sideways and the resulting hole was way off center. Very frustrating. It was just a simple hole. Now what? After contacting Delta Pop Aviation, the antenna manufacturer, I was able to get the specs and dimensions of the antenna. The antenna itself is in the Finishing Kit which I don't have yet. It's a small blade antenna whose base is 1" wide by 4" long. The mounting holes are correct . So If I redrilled the connector hole on center the base will cover the offset flaw. So that's what I did. After measuring very carefully I used my mini drill press to redo the hole centered with the mounting holes. The hole itself isn't pretty and very out-of-round but it's purely cosmetic, will be hidden by the antenna base and is on the very bottom rear of the aircraft. But I hate stuff like that. "You don't get the airplane you want. You get the airplane you build." Sigh. In a couple weeks it will be long forgotten. I also started the trimming the slot for the tailwheel leg.
