Fuel Pump and Selector Valve Installed
Started getting fuel components and fittings installed. As usual more time was spent researching things vs actually doing things. I started by using my new crimper to crimp on terminals to the fuel pump leads. Then it was time to attach the fuel filter to the pump. Working with NPT fittings is new for me. I had to seek out an appropriate thread sealer since Teflon tape is a no-no in aircraft. Figuring out the correct torque specs took some time too. It took digging in AC 43.13, Section 5 and watching multiple YouTube videos on the subject of NPT connections, flares, and tube bending to get it sorted out. I elected to disassemble the fuel filter just to make sure I understood how it went together for cleaning. The next time I do that it'll be installed and in a tight spot. Its pretty straightforward so I reassembled it and redid the safety wire before screwing it to the fuel pump. Van's guidance was to screw it in till resistance is initially felt then go 1.5-2 turns more. I got 1.25 turns more and it was very tight so I called it good. Then I got the fuel selector valve installed followed by the fuel pump assembly. The were also three 90 degree elbow fittings installed at the wings roots and firewall. I'll be moving on to fabricating the fuel lines next.
