Scott's RV-14 Build

Bits And Pieces

My intent today was to get familiar with the flap actuation components located in the lower fuselage. Specifically that the flap torque tubes fit correctly in the previously installed bushings and there's no binding. Once the floors are riveted down there's no access to those bushings so I need to make sure they're torqued correctly now. The plans don't direct this but I'll feel better knowing the parts were test fitted beforehand. Only problem was I had one torque tube and needed two. I searched everywhere and could only come up with one. They're not small. A nearly 2 feet long powder coated steel tube with a welded bracket on the end. I searched my inventory checklist and saw they were among the few back ordered components delivered about a month after my QB kit was delivered. Reviewing my invoices from Van's it looked like they only sent one. I hadn't realized at the time I needed two. A call to Van's sorted it out. They agreed with my assessment and are expediting another $66 torque tube to me. In the meantime I moved on to other odd jobs. I quickly knocked out a floor splice plate with a couple nutplates and got started on the flap motor mounting brackets nutplates.
