Getting Smart on Fiberglass
I've wanted to attend EAA SportAir Workshops over the past year but Covid shut them all down. Specifically, the Electrical and Avionics class and the Fiberglass Techniques for RV Aircraft class. For 2021 they're finally offering them again but you need to sign up quick because pent up demand is high. I managed to sign up for the Fiberglass class held in Oshkosh over the weekend of March 13. It was an interesting and educational two days with plenty of hands on working on some small projects utilizing skills we'll use on our RVs. In particular a technique was demonstrated to install the canopy that simplifies the way Van's directs you to do it. It was nice to have hands on experience with the resins, cloth, adhesives and fillers we'll use along the way. I'm no expert now by any stretch but I am smarter then I was a couple days ago. It was time and money well spent. As a bonus I got to wander around the terrific EAA Museum with their dozens of rare and impressive aircraft. The Electrical class was also being held at the same time. I'm told it will be offered again in May so hopefully I can get on the list for that.
