Control Stop Tweaking

Not much time today but I did manage to start tweaking the upper and lower control stops on the two control column bearing brackets. First was to make sure the nose up and nose down control throws were at the spec'd amount of degrees. A digital level app on my iPhone made this task quick and easy. Next was to insure the control column contacted the control stops simultaneously on both sides when fully nose up and nose down. As expected this was going to need tweaking. I had a .007" gap on the right one when the left was was touching. Filing down the left one was required but it's in a tight spot. Fortunately I had the foresight to buy a pack of tiny rat tail files at HF a few weeks ago. It was just a random purchase when I saw them. They were cheap and I just knew the day would come when I'd need them. Using one of the flat ones I carefully removed material on the left side upper stop and slowly narrowed the gap. It was still slow going because I could only move the file a short distance either way. Over time I made progress and used a slip of paper (.002" thick) as my final feeler gauge to get it perfect. I now need to adjust the nose down control stops in the same way. That'll have to wait until Tuesday....
