More Control Stop Tweaking and Stick Install

Spent hours today adjusting the lower control stops. These were much tougher to access and see as they were underneath the control column. As previous I determined which nose down stop was touching first then removed material there until both stops made contact equally. Unlike the upper stops that I could file I found the lower ones were only accessible with a small piece of 80 grit sandpaper. My big hands and confined space made other tools impractical. Little by little I sanded away at the stop stopping frequently to uncramp my hands and fingers. After 3 hours of this and constantly measuring using a slip of paper as a feeler gauge I'd removed enough metal so both nose down stops made simultaneous contact. Then it was on to torqueing down the AN4 bolts attaching the stick mounts to their roll bearings. I encountered some minor binding at full torque so needed to determine if shims were required. I found the left side had some play so I fabricated and inserted a .016" aluminum shim to take up the slack. This resulted in greatly reduced control friction in roll. Although not called for in the plans I sprayed primer into the interiors of the 2 steel control stick tubes. The exteriors came powder coated.
