Horz. Stab Fairing Patches

Trimmed and fitted the 2 fiberglass patches I created for the rear opening in the horizontal stab fairing. Then with the patches taped in position I spent a lot of time making sure the resulting gap between the elevator and stab fairings was correct. Too wide and it looks bad cosmetically and creates unnecessary drag. To narrow and the elevator horn will rub it as it travels its full range of motion. It took a lot of measuring, sanding and re-taping the cover in place to get the gaps right. That task complete it was time to deburr, dimple and rivet the elevator fairings in place. I ran into a snag when I realized my squeezer yoke wouldn't fit into the gap at the rear to get the 2 aft holes. They make Close Quarter Dimple Dies but I only had them for 3/32" rivets, not 1/8". Buying one online was going to take days and halt my progress. Fortunately my builder buddy Dan had 1/8" dies and generously let me borrow them. It was my first time using this kind of dimple die with a hand squeezer. I reviewed the Cleaveland Aircraft Tool video on it and the did several practice dimples on scrap aluminum. It was easy to get the hang of and the resulting dimples are nearly indistinguishable from normal dimples. I also purchased a set from Cleaveland so I'll have my own in the future.
