Empennage Fairing Fitment
Yesterday I got the lower empennage gap covers finished. They clean up and cover the fuselage/horizontal stab gap underneath and to the rear. This necessitated removing the elevators to accomplish. The gap covers required some minor bending per plans and some tweaking for proper fit. Today was spent fitting and tweaking the single piece fiberglass empennage fairing that cleans up the junction between the vertical and horizontal stabs and the fuselage. Quite a bit of sanding and trimming is necessary for a proper fit. It makes a big mess that's for sure. The next step is to blind drilling the fiberglass to the existing nutplate holes. I'm going use the magnet technique to center the holes. I'm a bit skeptical this will work well but there aren't any good options when the fiberglass is opaque.

Empennage fairing. It's a large, awkwardly shaped piece to work with.
