Forward Cowling Seals Done...What a PIA!
I spent a ridiculous amount of time getting the forward cowling seals right. Embarrassingly so. Mechanically they are quite simple. But the cowling as initially fitted was not going to work correctly. I had no choice if I wanted them to fit right. My efforts paid off and after getting them drilled, countersunk, and test installed I did a fit check on the plane. For the most part the seals fit nice and flush on the air ramps with just a couple of small bumps. I think with heat and time the bumps, which are small now, will go away. I had the lower cowling on and off a couple times prior to drilling to check spacing and clearances. Using a file, I chamfered and thinned the lower intakes edges, particularly in the corners where there was interference. I also using my rotary tool to grind away excess cured flox that was unneeded and now was just excess weight. It's good to have that done and I can finally move on to something new.

Used my rotary tool to grind away excess cured flox.

End result came out very nice.

a file with used to thin and chamfer the trailing edges to provide more space for the seals to fit.

The retaining strips underneath that secure the seals.

Drilling and countersinking for the AN507C632 screws so they are nice and flush.
