Day’s 1-3
Empennage
We’re hitting the ground running on this Sling TSi build. We have gone through and inventoried all of the crates we have received.
We then built the horizontal stabilizer and are working on the elevator.
To build the horizontal stabilizer we went through all of the parts and first removed all of the plastic and inspected each part. We then scuffed all parts that would be exposed when painted to help insure good bonding when that time comes. After completing that and cleaning all the parts we then followed the build manual and assembled the parts as instructed and riveted everything together.
Once that was finished we then took body filler and using an applicator we made, spread it into the holes left in the tops of the rivets when the mandrill’s get pulled. Now once it dries we will sand them all smooth and the horizontal stabilizer will be ready for paint. A very good start to our build.
We are going through the same process for the elevator. This assembly is a little more complex. We have a few parts issues with this assembly that we need to sort out in order to finish it. There’s a hinge bracket missing as well as the trim tab skin does not appear to be made correctly. We will be working with Sling Tech to get it sorted out. However I’m the meantime we will get as much of the elevator completed and move onto the rest of the empennage assembly.
