Day 50
Left Side Skin.
Our angle drill arrived today! We were able to finish riveting the front control torque tubes in place. All of these had to be hand pulled because of their tight spacing. And a few needed to be clear drilled, either because the other side was not drilled, or because it required a larger rivet. The tubes still move smoothly in their respective grommets after being fully riveted.
Next we were able to move onto clecoing the left side skin and riveting the vertical spars as we had done with the other side yesterday. It is exciting to see the plane body able to support its own weight now as the skins and channels give it strength and rigidity.
Tomorrow we’ll work on riveting the rest of the channels on the left side. Then work on the front and hopefully get the firewall mounted as well.
