Day 64
Sealing of Left Side Fuel Tank
Today was a continuation of yesterday. We’re we’re able to get a new rivet gun, and were loaned a air compressor. These things were very helpful and made a great deal of difference in our experience of sealing our other fuel tank.
The process was the same as the first tank, other thank a few procedural parts. First, we assembled the fuel sender rib first with its various fuel line components, as well as the fuel drain, and fuel cap. All these we did before we began assembling the fuel tank frame assembly. It slowed much better access later.
We still struggled with the close ended riveting on their back side of the tank. For whatever reason, when the rivet mandrill pulls out on them, it leaves a small ring of metal that jams the gun. We moved up a size in the rivet fitting and this worked well enough.
We were able to get it Cleco’ed onto the left wing after finished with the sealant to allow it to finish setting up. As well, we cleaned up the skin with acetone.
