Day 82
Wing Tips
Heard back from Sling Technical today. They're sending us a box that will also have our rivets inside. Should receive it soon.
Today we fitted both wing tips for their NAV lights. As mentioned in an earlier post, we have decided we will rivet the light brackets on to the tips after they have been painted and are doing final install.
We also added a fourth rivet hole to the brackets, for two reasons; First, because we filled in the holes we made in the left wing tip from the rivnuts we removed, we wanted to make sure that there was a good hold for that bracket. Insuring it would not come off. The Fiberglass we used to fill the holes sat overnight to make sure it cured all the way and was strength tested. when we drilled the rivet holes there was zero movement. The second reason we added this fourth hole, because the wing tips have so much material around the rear hole, the rivet may not pull firmly enough, so putting one further up guaranties a strong hold for the light brackets.
We also leak tested the right fuel tank we repaired last week. Good news and bad news... The leak we fixed did not come back at all. Very dry. Being that we were unable to fill the tank all the way the first time due to the sizable leak caused by the errant rivet, we did not detect the small leak in the top root corner of the tank. Furthermore, because of all the water from the first test we did not detect the one rivet hole that has the slightest drip coming from it. These will be relatively easy to fix. We are going to try to source either a smaller volumed tube of sealant, or a comparable material. The tubes of sealant we have are 3.5oz. Far more than what is needed to fix the leaks.
As for getting our fuel line repaired today, they were unavailable to help today. We will try again tomorrow.
