Day 97
Wing Step Connection
We think we finally figured out the heater ductwork channel issue we’ve been having! There is an alternative way of running the ducting without altering the pieces we have. We won’t be able to test it until the plane is back down off of the table, but we are very excited to have gotten it figured out. It has been perplexing us for some time now.
As we are waiting the arrival of our crate we have been looking through the build manuals to gain a better understanding and foresight into how everything will come together. In doing so, we came across where the wing step connection goes on the rear fuselage. We noticed that where it showed it being installed, we had already pulled rivets.
Nowhere in the build manual prior to this had it mentioned leaving these 18 holes blank. Also of note, they are meant to be a size lager as well. So even though the steps are not riveted on until final assembly we drilled out the rivets and Cleco’ed the steps on to make sure they will fit properly. If we had not noticed this detail until after it had been painted, it would have been fine, but there would have been a chance of scratching or chipping the paint when doing so. So we were grateful to have caught it and pre fit them first. They will be removed and set aside for now until after the the plane has been painted and we are doing the final assembly of the plane.
