Day 106
Main Landing Gear Wheel Assemblies
Started this morning with filling in the rest of the rivet heads on the underside of the right wing.
We then received notice that our crate had been delivered. So we promptly went and picked that up and inventoried it’s contents. It had about half of the back ordered parts we’re waiting on. Not as much as we had hoped for, but enough to get us going for a little while.
We were able to get the Axel and main wheel assemblies installed to the main landing gear. This required quite a bit of lubricant grease and making sure bearings went on properly and everything is torqued correctly.
We were also able to set the wheel spats on the tires to get an idea of how they mount on. They will require a lot of custom drilling and fitting.
Tomorrow we’ll get the nose gear mounted being as the bearings we were waiting on arrived with the crate today. Although sadly, we still will not be able to mount the front wheel because the wheel hub assembly did not arrive with the back order crate.
We Unfortunately wont be able to finish bolting in the landing gear to the fuselage because we didn’t receive our reinforcement tube spacers.
Once the nose gear is installed though, we should be able to at least set the plane back down off of the work bench and onto the ground. We’ll place some foam spacers under the nose so that it sits at approximately the height that it is supposed to.
