Day 123
Paint Prep
Today we deconstructed the brake throttle quadrant we had previously assembled. We did not realize the main panel was supposed to be painted. This wasn’t too big of an issue because the assembly hadn’t been fully completed yet due to it having some components on back order when we first did it.
After disassembling it we prepped the pieces for paint by thoroughly scuffing them. We ordered our paint which we will have early next week.
We also placed the remaining parts on the assembly that we received with the last back order crate. (i.e. the brake cylinder and some spacers) Now once the parts are painted it can be fully assembled and placed in the plane get everything hooked up to it.
Today we also worked on prepping the upper control sticks. They come long so that they can be trimmed to the desired length. It was recommended to us to by other builders to shorten them to 14 1/2 inches. They found this this to be a median length. After measuring them out we used a pipe cutter tool to make a clean cut. Then used 220 grit sandpaper to sand the sharp edges. Lastly the sticks were scuffed and set aside, ready to be painted.
Lastly we put in an order for a couple of needed motor mount bolts from Aircraft Spruce. The ones we have are too short once the parachute tangs are installed. We also ordered some torque seal that we will need to start applying as the plane is being finished. This seal is applied to the head of the nut and bolt after they have been properly torqued. It gives you a visual If there is any tampering or loosening of the bolt. The wax seal will crack.
