Day 149
Vertical Stabilizer & Canopy
The grommet set we ordered came, so we were able to disassemble our Cleco’ed vertical stabilizer and drill in larger holes for the antenna cable and beacon lights to run through.
We have also ordered some wire plugs that will allow us to easily connect the beacon light through the stabilizer to the rudder cap. As well as sources some retainer clips that will hold them fast to the stabilizer itself. Going to work perfectly!
In working on the vertical stabilizer again after setting it aside so long ago as we waited for back ordered parts, we realized that there was a set of rivets that were not pulled the correct direction. So we will be drilling those out and pulling them the correct way so that it mounts onto the rear fuselage correctly.
We also filled in and sanded the rivet heads from when we mounted the canopy and parachute cable tray.
After we sanded the rivets we cleaned the surface where the seam is and ran masking tape along the edge. We then caulked in some SikaFlex and troweled it off smooth. Then removed the tap to give it a straight and smooth finish. This insured the seam between the canopy and the fuselage is 100% sealed.
