Day 187

Windscreens

We’ve been working hard on the canopy hatches and the various windows.

We have both hatch door latch systems fitted now, as well as their covers completed. We have one of the hatches completely sanded and scuffed. We have both glasses trimmed out. We’ve taken apart the hinges and have marked them with a punch so that they go back onto the same hinge they came from so that they will fit correctly.

We have marked out the two rear window’s with tape and are ready for trimming. Each window we do we improve greatly in our skill to trim them.

Today we also installed our first window. First e marked out where the overlap was with tape. Then abraded both bonding surfaces with 80 grit sandpaper. We then masked of all the edges of both the canopy hatch and the window to minimize the mess when we went to apply the sealant. Once everything was ready we then cleaned the bonding surfaces with Sika 205 Acrivator. This was allowed to flash for 10 minutes. We than used a foam brush to apply Sika primer 206 G+P to the canopy and Sika Primer 209 D to the window. These were allowed to flash for a full 30 minutes as per their instructions. Once they were done flashing we put a healthy bead of SikaFlex 295UV around the bonding surface of the canopy. Using a spatula we evenly spread the SikaFlex all the way around. We then set the glass in place and clamped all the way around to create an even bond all the way around the parameter. We then did our best to uniformly wipe the squeeze out around the inside and outside edges.

After it has had a day to dry we will remove the clamps and peel of the tape and clean up the remainder of the SikaFlex.

Very excited to see how it all turns out and learn of any improvements in our application for the rest of the windows, especially before we get to the big front windscreen.

PS. Our Upholstery Kit arrived!
