Day 213
Wing Farings
Today we finished fitting the wing fairings. The measurements in the build manuals did not line up quite right where our fairings sat. So some of them we moved a little bit to align better. Each side fit slightly differently as well. One of the fairings were molded and fit the plane better than the other. But we got them both to work.
After we match drilled and Cleco’ed all the holes with a 1/8 bit we then removed the fairings and drilled out the plane holes to fit the M4 rivet nuts. We then installed as many of those as we could with the wings on. There are a few on the tops of the wings that we cannot get our rivet nut puller tool to fit flush with the panels. So we will finish those when we remove the wings. As for the others, we made sure to use red locktite to help hold them in place per the instructions.
We also mapped out where we want to put our borders on the wing tips for the red we plan to do. So the wings are ready to come off now and be prepared for paint. And once the rest of the rivet nuts are pulled on the fuselage we can go around and prepare it for paint as well. The flaps and ailerons can also be prepared for paint now. The only big thing really left to finish is the bottom cowling that we still need to mount the exhaust shroud.
