Day 228 & 229
Empennage, Antenna & Air Intake Assemblies
We have the Empennage (Tail) all assembled! This involved a lot of tight spaces. Each bracket has spacers that go in between them. Then there is the flap control tube that has eye bolts that are not easy to get to. Not to mention finishing cable and wire plug connections. But with some patience we got everything assembled and hooked up. It all turned out great!
We have also installed and hooked up all the antennas on the plane.
As well, we worked on getting the air flow connections and ductwork hooked up for the fresh air system. This also had some tight spaces. We think the company was in between old and new system installations, so we kind of had to mix and match to make it all work. All that is left is to hook up the vents to the dash panel vents once it gets installed.
Today we also started looking into how the long range fuel system would work now that we have the wiring harness. The build manuals do not go into much detail as to how the system is meant to be mounted. So we’re working to get it all sorted. We found that by enlarging one of the holes in the side of the fuselage it will allow two fuel lines to fit through. This will work well for both return lines. We do still need to sort out where to mount the in-line fuel pumps as well as order one more pump off of aircraft spruce’s site because the wiring harness we received is for a two pump system, versus the single pump system in the build manual plans.
