Custom spar carrythough and landing gear angle shims
A) The spar carrythough upright angles are 3.2mm thick
B) The strengthening angle CF-ANG-010 and side skin support angle CF-ANG-025 are 1.6mm thick at the location of the main gear support angles
C) The strengthening angle CF-ANG-010 and side skin support angle CF-ANG-025 are 1.6mm thick, but at the location of the spar carrythough upright angles these are overlaid with the side rail joining plate CF-PLT-005 which is 2.4mm thick, for a total thickness of 4.0mm in this region
D) The front and rear main gear support angles CF-ANG-006 and CF-ANG-007 are 2.4mm thick
All of these are attached to the side skin and the CF-GUS-001 strengthening gussets are expected to bridge these, but there are steps of about 0.8mm in each case. Rather than using rivets to pull these more-or-less closed, I have made shims from 0.8mm 6061 to eliminate these steps, and/or reduce any patterns of such steps to be transferred to the skin.
Solutions below - the CF-GUS-001 and CF-PLT-006 splice spacer are not shown - they are laid over the shimmed flanges
Addendum 10 Jan 2024: The CF-ANG-025 are in fact only 1.27mm thick. Added to the CF-PLT-005 which is 2.4mm thick makes a total of 3.67mm thick. This means the shims for the front main spar carrythough upright angles should be 3.67-3.2 = 0.47mm (0.4mm) thick, or perhaps omitted altogether.
