Tail strobe and vertical stabiliser wiring installation
Drilled 3x holes for rudder strobe light (Aveo Minimax Ariel Daylight red) according to the manual. Fitted 2x M3 rivnuts with Loctite 277, drill speed 1 torque 13. Fitted 1x Heyco 2030 snap bushing as wire grommet. Fitted light using temporary M3 screws - all fitted perfectly. Snap bushing was a perfect fit.
Fitted Heyco 2030 snap bushings to 9.5mm holes previously drilled in the vertical stabiliser. Routed the VOR antenna through the front of the vertical stabiliser, created a loop under the VOR antenna and then cable tied through holes previously drilled in the VOR base plate and rib 4. Trimmed cable tie with nail clippers to get a clean edge.
Pulled 4-core wire for strobe light - factory supplies 1.3m, it is at least 30cm too short. No room for error with wire connections! No wire supplied to lengthen the strobe light cable to reach the main cable. Little things like this are very irritating, Sling can really make life easier by supplying an appropriate length cable and a bit extra in case of errors. Removed +- 20mm of outer insulation from the end of the cable near the top of the VS to make it easier to work with later when it's less accessible. Protected with some electrician's insulation tape for now. Standoff still to be acquired and installed to secure the wire to the VS rear spar per the KAI. I'll need to think about the wiring a bit but will probably position the main strobe wire a little further down the VS rear spar and then use a slightly longer piece of wire on the light itself since that needs to be lengthened anyway. It should be possible to position a connector for the two sections opposite a lightening hole in the rear spar which is accessible from back, thus creating some much-needed extra wire length at the base of the vertical stabiliser. Otherwise the full length of wire needs to be replaced, but it's probably unnecessary.
Snap bushings are a little oversized for the wiring, but I'm happy with it - will make future wiring replacement possible if it ever needs to be done.
Inserted Heyco 2030 snap bushing in rudder rib 5 for the tail strobe wire.
