Top Rudder Fairing Complete
Using a combo of 100, 220 and 320 grit sandpaper I sanded off the majority of the SuperFil I applied last night to the fairing seams. My goal was to remove as much filler as possible to reduce weight and leave a nice, flush transition between the fiberglass and the metal and cover all the pulled rivets used to secure it. It came out very nice with the 320 sandpaper leaving a very smooth final finish. When primed and painted I think the transition will be invisible. I used electrical tape to cover the lower row of previously installed flush rivets. I sanded the filler down to the tape, peeled off the tape then feathered in the remaining edge. Some builders like to cover their rivets lines but I want mine to show except for very specific circumstances. Plus filler adds weight and want to minimize that. Then I moved on to the elevator fairings and got the right one match drilled and clecoed in.

Filler applied to the fairing seams prior to sanding.

After sanding. The transition and rivets are imperceptible.

Right elevator fairing clecoed in.
