Landing Light Installation
Got the left fuel tank re-installed uneventfully and with that put Section 18, Fuel Tanks to bed. It's always satisfying to complete a construction section and move on. Still plenty left on the wings. I got an email from Van's the other day that my Finishing Kit was finally ready for crating and they wanted the balance due which I was happy to pay. Delivery should occur sometime between the end of March and May. I'm looking forward to getting it and diving in. Lord knows where I'm gonna store everything. My garage is getting pretty full of airplane stuff. I may need to rent a small storage unit to cope. I moved on to installing the two landing light assemblies in the wings. I'd fabricated them weeks ago. I did a test fit of the bracket assembly then used my close quarter dimple dies to dimple the 12 rivets holes on one wing. The holes are too far from an edge to use a yoke. I also painted the light alcove in the wing flat black to match the light assemblies. Once the bracket is riveted in it'll be on to fabricating and fitting the clear lens that covers it. My plan is to do one complete wing then move to the other wing to minimize moving the wings around thus minimizing the risk of damage. I need a #30 and #27 plexiglass drill bit and got those ordered today so I'll have them when needed. Numbered plexiglass bits in those sizes aren't available so I went with the closest fractional sizes which are 1/8" and 5/32".
