Cowling Moving Forward

Things are progressing on the cowling. Fitting and trimming the lower cowling took many hours as I knew it would. It's a big piece with a lot of edges that needed to be precisely trimmed for a good fit and appearance. The cowling fixture continues to be a valuable tool allowing me to cleco the cowling halves to it. This provides a fixed, accurate and repeatable location to adjust the fit. I've had the cowling halves on and off dozens of times throughout the fitment process. Overall, I'm pleased with a how it looks so far. The front intakes have areas on the outboard edges that don't precisely match in some locations due to mold differences. I'll have to clean those areas up at the end with flox. With the cowling fitment completed I could finally move on to drilling for the piano hinges that will attach the cowling halves to each other and to the fuselage.
