Day 60
Dry Fit Main Fuel Tank.
Today we finished riveting the right wing top skin. Same process as before; Cleco, clear drill, deburr, set and pull. Had to do some maintenance about half way through on the rivet gun. It was getting tired. Had a few rivet mandrills that had gotten jammed up inside that was causing it not to function correctly. After that was taken car of, it worked better than ever.
After completing the top skin we set about clecoing the main tank for the right wing. First made sure all the parts were clean, then dry assembled all the ribs and channels. After those were assembled, then wrapped the fuel tank skin around the frame assembly. After that was completed we Cleco’ed it to the right wing assembly.
Tomorrow we will clear drill everything as it sits on the wing to make sure everything lines up for the sealing and riveting process. After that is done it will be dismantled and cleaned again, taking care that there are no metal shavings left in the tank. Then the process will be repeated for the left tank.
