Day 161
Front Top Skin
Worked some more on the front top skin today. After tracing the front edge we removed the part and sanded up to the line. We fit it back on the plane a few times as we went to make sure we were not removing too much material and it was still going the way we needed it to.
After we had it sanded we used a strap to hold it in place. We were going to start match drilling the holes, but found that the tool we had for finding the holes was not the needed size. When we got it, we got the size for the rivets that would be going in, but forgot that on the holes that are to be dimpled they drill them slightly smaller because the stretch slightly when done. So we got a full set of the hole duplicator tools ordered.
Today we also finished the wiring for the heater box. We were waiting for a special crimp tool for the open ended spades. It worked perfectly! We were able to make quick work of the four wires and got the heater switched all wired up and the plug assembled and hooked up. All it will need is to be mounted on the instrument panel as it gets installed in the dash.
We also had our AN bulkhead washer arrive that for whatever reason was missing from our return fuel line bulkhead fitting. We got it put on and have started measuring and routing where we want the return fuel line to run from the firewall to the fuel selector.
We have just a few things to finish up underneath the front top skin that won’t take very long to button up. Should have it all done by the time our hole duplicator gets here. Then we’ll be able to finish that up fairly quickly.
