Day 266
Fuel Lines and Wing Bolts
Today we got a few final assemblies completed and checked off our list.
- We got the slip step tracks installed on each wing and step assist. These were double sided adhesive tracts that came pre cut. We cleaned the wings where they were to go with anti- wax and grease remover and then pealed the backs off of the tracts and applied them to the wings.
- We tightened all the wing mount bolts and took special care to torque each one to their specifications. (The 16 M7’s for the main spar to 41.7 ft lb’s and the 2 M5’s for the rear spars to 11.6 as per the build manuals instructions.) This took some time and care as there is very little room to work inside the plane and even less to put tools and get adequate leverage when trying to torque everything properly. But we wanted to be very thorough with this step as we don’t want any issues with the wings later on.
- Lastly today we hooked up the fuel lines from the wings to the fuselage. We had to trim the hard feed lines for the long range tanks. Not knowing exactly how long they needed to be we had left them a little long. We trimmed about 4 inches off of each side. We then put slid the fuel lines on and tightened the zebra clamps. We then put sealant on the other fuel fittings and and tightened them on. This was the first time we had connected these fuel lines as we had made them after the wings had been fitted before, so it was nice to see they came together without much trouble.
