Cowling, Prop governor
Cowling
I removed the propeller this morning which made access to the forward engine cowling easier. It also allows me to drop the tailwheel back onto the floor without having the prop hit the ceiling. I then proceeded to prepare the lower engine cowling to mold the air intake to. To do this I made a firewall template from polystyrene and mounted it inverted on the workbench. This gives the correct curvature to the cowling without having to mold it upside down.
I’ve covered everything with masking tape, and tomorrow will buy some release agent.
Prop governor
I still wasn’t happy with the prop governor mounting studs so I removed them and inverted two of them. There is a slight difference in the threads at one end on each stud and I haven’t been able to reference it anywhere. The stud length is now much better, and they are tight. Tomorrow I’ll buy some more star locking washers and will use them on both the prop governor and the fuel servo.
I also fitted grommets from the Vans firewall forward kit onto the prop governor cable where it passes through two mounting brackets.
